Having you ears syringed in the Philippines is not as easy as it is in the UK. In the UK when you need your ears syringed you simply make an appointment at your local surgery, go to the surgery and the nurse will syringe your ears. In the Philippines it is not that easy as I found out, for some reason most doctors and clinics in the Philippines will not syringe your ears. I went to my local doctor in Makati only to be told that I had to see an Otolaryngologists, to be honest at that time I was not even sure what an Otolaryngologists was. It took me more than an hour of asking people before I discover it was an ear, nose and throat specialist. By this time hardly being able to hear I was getting frustrated, but my frustration just kept growing. Trying the nearest hospitals only resulted in us being told “The Otolaryngologists does not work today”, “Sorry Sir the Otolaryngologists only takes appointments from 8am to 10am.” The next 4 hours was spent in a taxi going from one area of Manila to another looking for a Otolaryngologists that would syringe my ears that day. You can imagine by this time my blood was boiling, all this for a simple process that is carried out by a nurse in the UK, while coping with the horrible feeling of having blocked ears. Finally we did find a Ear, nose and throat specialist and after waiting in a queue for another 1 and a half hours I got my ears syringed and my hearing restored. Since that day I have never needed my ears syringed again thanks to hydrogen peroxide. Using Hydrogen Peroxide to Remove Earwax Normally, your ears produce just enough ear wax they need to protect the ear canal from water, dirt, insects and infection. Sometimes, however some of us produce more wax than we need or our earwax is to hard to clear itself. Medically it is not necessary to remove this wax, doing so can avoid the need to have your ears syringed. There are many brands of ear drops that claim to do the job on the market, I have always found them a bit hit and miss, sometimes they will do the job, other times they will not and there have been times when they make it worse. What the research says about Hydrogen peroxide For many years Hydrogen Peroxide has been considered an effective ingredient in earwax removal solutions. A researcher in a 2004 study found that eardrops may be the most cost-effective way to treat earwax buildup at home. Australian Family Physicians in a 2015 study advocated eardrops as a first-line treatment to help ears cleaning. Word of warning before you start If you have pain, discomfort, hearing loss it could be caused by something other than earwax build-up. Sudden hearing loss in one ear could be a sign of a medical condition. This should be treated as a medical emergency, so get medical advice. How to Use 3% Hydrogen Peroxide to Remove Ear Wax Getting start first prepare tissue or a towel to catch the liquid. Also something small to pour the 3% Hydrogen Peroxide into your ear, you will need someone to do this for you. I find it better to use a normal syringe (without needle) that way I can do it myself. Step 1: Fill the item you have for pouring or a syringe with a small amount of Hydrogen Peroxide. Step 2: Lie down on your side using pillows so that your head is straight. Step 3: Introduce the Hydrogen Peroxide into your ear canal gently. Step 4: Lie there for about 15 to 20 minutes. You will hear popping and fizzing in your ear and it does tickle like crazy until you get used to it. Do not worry it is just hydrogen peroxide solution working breaking up the ear wax. After a while it will slow down and stop. Step 5: Cover your ear with tissue or a towel and gently sit up or roll over to allow the ear to drain. You may see small bits of wax on the tissue, however a lot of the time you will not notice any earwax on the tissue, this is because the hydrogen peroxide breaks it down and softens it so much it turns to liquid and also due to the fact hydrogen peroxide bleaches it. Repeat the procedure for the other ear if it too is affected. You might need to do this more than once a day if your ears are very bad. Warning Before you go ahead here are some things you need to be aware of. If you have had a perforated eardrum, do not use hydrogen peroxide. Follow the directions. If you think you have an ear injury or infection, don't use hydrogen peroxide. Do not go sticking anything in your ear. If you think the wax is pretty much lodged, see a professional. Hopefully this will work as well for you as it has for me. In the UK I used to have my ears syringed once a year, it has now been 9 years since I have needed ears syringed. I clean my ears with hydrogen peroxide about once every 2 or 3 months normally if they get itchy.
