New People’s Army raid Balangkayan police station
Around 30 members of the NPA (New People’s Army) raided a police station in Balangkayan, Eastern Samar Monday evening, and got away with several weapons.
None of the 5 policemen at the police station were harmed during the raid.
The raid happened at about 7pm and lasted about 30 minutes, 30 minutes according to Eastern Samar police provincial director Sr. Supt. Romeo Campomanes.
Campomanes said that at least 14 assorted firearms were carried away by the New People’s Army from the police station.
The police officers caught by surprise and did not attempt to fight back. It is claimed the The members of the New People’s Army threatened to shoot them if they moved.
Out of the 22 police officers in Balangkayan town 11 were on duty on at the time, 5 of them were inside the police station and the other 6 were conducting patrol or having dinner.
The members New People’s Army fled towards Balogo village in a rented van. The the vehicle was abandoned in a remote village.
The incident is being investigated to see if there was a possible lapses on police operation procedures, according to the provincial police chief.
Balangkayan town is in Eastern Samar is about 99 miles from Tacloban.
Balangkayan is still trying to recover from typhoon Yolanda that almost completly destroyed the town as you can see in the video below.
