Jose P. Laurel

José Paciano Laurel y García, PLH (March 9, 1891 – November 6, 1959) was a Filipino politician and judge. He was the president of the Second Philippine Republic, when occupied during World War II, from 1943 to 1945. Since the administration of President Diosdado Macapagal (1961–1965), Laurel has been recognized as a legitimate president of the Philippines.

The first section of railway was opened in the Philippines

On the 25th March 1891 the first section of the railway which ran from Manila to Bagbag, which is on the outskirts of Quezon City was opened, this was the first time a train had been operated in the Philippines. The 48km section of track was part of the line being built from Manila to Dagupan which was completed in 1894, The construction was carried out by British owned company Manila Railway Company Ltd.
