The Battle of Manila is a major battle on the Philippine campaign of 1944-45 during World War II that was fought by the American and Filipino forces against the Empire of Japan in Manila, the capital city of the Philippines.

The USA said the number of civilians killed was 100,000 and blame many of the deaths on the Japanese, however locals that survived the intense shelling by U.S. forces say the figure was closer to half a million civilians killed, and say must of them died from U.S. shells.
